Split indecision

Herald Sun - Motoring - - Ask Smithy -

MY wife ran off the road in our 2008 Nissan Navara STX and hit a bump and the car broke in half. We had owned the vehicle since new and it had never been in an accident. Our insurance company declined to fix the chassis as they say they don’t repair such faults. I have been told that you have had some other problems with Navara chassis reported to you. I would really like to contact those people so I can take it to the Department of Infrastructure and Transport. I see this as a major problem with the Navara.

Wehaven’t had any other reports like yours, which shows major cracking of the chassis, enough to make the vehicle a write-off. The best course of action for you is to consult an engineer who can assess the failure and hopefully determine what caused it.
