In the clutches

Herald Sun - Motoring - - Ask Smithy -

I have had problems with the gearbox in my 2010VWGolf 90TSI DSG, which I bought new. No fault was found the first two occasions I took it back to the dealer but on the third time the multi-plate was replaced. There was also an update, which we were later told by another dealer that it was carried out correctly. We have now been informed that the clutch plate needs replacing. The warranty expires in August and were concerned about what would happen if it happens again after expiry.

Dennis Mole, email The clutch issue you have experienced (twice) is a common one with the DSG and the replacement clutch that is to be fitted should be covered by warranty. In other countries, trouble with the DSG has ledVWto extend the warranty on it to 10 years. ApproachVWand request a free extended warranty.
