Festival of precious metal
Melbourne hosts spectacular show cars worth $40m-plus
THREE of Holden’s best concept cars will headline a stunning array of vehicles at the Meguiar’s MotorEx in Melbourne on July 19-20.
More than $40 million worth of cars will be on display at the festival of precious metal at the Melbourne Showgrounds in Ascot Vale.
Holden’s Coupe 60 is the design team’s vision of what a VE muscle coupe would look like; the Hurricane is a breathtakingly beautiful concept car from 1969 that has been lovingly restored; and the Efijy is a modern design icon.
Meguiar’s MotorEx, previously held in Sydney, is making the trip south for the first time.
It is a celebration of spectacular modified vehicles, race specials and cool custom machines and there is a special emphasis on muscle.
The show is also the highlight of the year for some of the most talented custom car builders in Australia.
They spend months coming up with some of the most incredible muscle machines that are presented during the Freestyle Rides Inauguration that starts at 11am on the opening day of the show.
Up to 12 of the best custom machines will be presented during the ride, which will also be streamed live on the event’s website.
More stunning show cars will be presented in the Meguiar’s Superstars pavilion. Described as pieces of rolling automotive art, these cars have to be seen to be believed.
Among them will be seven of the last 12 Street Machine magazine cover cars.
These including an eyepopping FJ Holden, a smooth purple Dodge Charger, a standout HQ one-tonne ute and a bright blue Falcon XY GT 351.
Australia’s best aftermarket suppliers will be on hand with everything you might require to transform your car from mild to wild, with experts available to provide advice on how to go about achieving a particular look or sound.
The fastest race cars in Australia will be on show in the Performance garage, along with top mechanics and tuners.
Meguiar’s MotorEx has also managed to secure the two current Bathurst champion race cars, the Ferrari 458 GT3 that took out the Bathurst 12 Hour and the FPR Falcon that won the 2013 Bathurst 1000 V8 Supercar race.
Spectators will also be able to see and hear some of their favourite machines in action thanks dyno power runs being conducted by Dyno Dynamics.
