ON THE BACK BURNER
FANS of the Honda Civic Type R hot hatch will be left waiting up to two years for the return of their favourite pocket rocket.
The Japanese company has put the turbocharged hatch on the back burner while it gives priority to getting the NSX into showrooms.
Honda teased devotees with a concept of the newgeneration Type R at the Geneva motor show almost a year ago and there has been talk of its new turbocharged engine.
British market versions — that is, in right-hand drive — go into production in July.
However, for Australia there are still no firm onsale dates, says local boss Stephen Collins.
“I think we will get it (the Type R),” Collins says.
“It has a rich heritage in Australia. But it’s not yet confirmed. It won’t arrive before the NSX and that means it could be (in Australia) as late as 2017.”
