MDHI rate the Colorado ahead of the Isuzu but, if you can make do with something that will tow 2500kg rather than 3000kg, also look at a Hyundai Santa Fe (pictured) as I give it The Tick.

What are your thoughts on a new Mazda6 Atenza? I’m looking at the quality of the car and value for money, depreciation compared to similar cars, and time before the current body shape changes. Ray Peck, email The Mazda6 is currently best in class and ticks all your boxes, as well as getting The Tick from me.

We are a retired couple who drive a 2008 Falcon and a Toyota HiLux. I don’t drive a lot but I’d like to downsize to something smaller and sitting higher for better vision, so am thinking about a smallish SUV. The only one I have driven so far is the Subaru XV but I notice the new Mazda CX-3 has had a lot of good reports. Dawn Bruce, email I have just driven the CX-3, Honda HR-V and Renault Captur and rate the Mazda as clearly best of the bunch, as well as better than the XV. It gets The Tick but be careful that you don’t spend too much — there are 14 models in the line-up.

I’ve had a Porsche Boxster and Mercedes-Benz C63 in the past and now I’m contemplating a cabriolet — I’d be interested in your assessment of the Mercedes E400. It would probably be a demonstrator or similar model. Ian Jennings, email I have yet to drive the E400 but, in general, mid-sized Mercedes drop-tops have lots of space and comfort but are not remotely sporty. If that’s what you crave, it should do the job. Kathryn Simcoe, email Toyota spokesman Stephen Coughlan says: “There is no plan at the moment (to bring back a Corolla wagon). There is a two-wheel drive RAV4 and Rukus as substitutes.” So that’s a no from Toyota. Look at a Hyundai i30 wagon, which gets The Tick and is the closest thing now to your Corolla wagon.

I am interested in buying a diesel sedan but I’m hearing a range of things about several of the contenders.
