MERCEDES-BENZ GLE

For­merly known as the ML, the GLE range starts with a 2.0-litre turbo diesel at $86,900, ris­ing to $189,900 for the GLE63 AMG S. The coupe-styled ri­poste to the BMW X6 starts at $121,900 for the GLE 350d Coupe and winds out to $198,900 for the GLE63 AMG S Coupe. Stan­dard gear in­cludes adap­tive cruise con­trol, au­ton­o­mous emer­gency brak­ing and ac­tive blindspot and lane-keep­ing as­sis­tance.

TOY­OTA HILUX

Toy­ota has con­firmed 31 vari­ants of its new HiLux ute, priced from about $21,000 to about $60,000 for the range­top­ping SR5 dual cab. Photos show a vastly im­proved in­te­rior dom­i­nated by a tablet-styled in­fo­tain­ment dis­play. HiLux will haul 3500kg with a pay­load of up to 1240kg. Four en­gines — two petrol and two diesel — will be avail­able, while seven airbags and a re­vers­ing cam­era take care of safety.

MAZDA BT-50

The facelifted BT-50 gets a scowl on the front end, in­tended to ap­peal more to tradies. Prices start at $25,570, some un­changed or, depend­ing on the vari­ant, a few hun­dred dol­lars more. The 2.2 and 3.2-litre turbo diesels carry over, matched to six-speed man­ual or auto trans­mis­sions. Mazda is ex­pected to up­date con­nec­tiv­ity fea­tures. There are 23 mod­els in three body styles.
