FOLLOWING the success of the previous Forester S-Edition performance flagship, Subaru will bring 300 examples of the STi-tweaked Forester tS to Australia from late February.

In a variation of the S-Edition formula — it scored the more powerful WRX engine — the tS sharpens the Forester’s handling rather than delivering more shove.

Under the skin are STipatented flexible subframe braces front and rear, plus a strut brace, STi springs and Brembo front and rear brakes wrapped in 19-inch Enkei alloys.

The Australian tS is to be based on the updated Forester due early next year, probably with visual enhancements similar to those on the current model. These include a black grille with pink STi details, front and rear lip spoilers and unique badging.

Driven back to back with a standard Forester XT at this week’s Levorg preview in Japan, the Forester tS showed significantly sharper dynamics on track.

There’s no disguising its extra height over a WRX or Levorg but the tS deftly tightens the package and will make for a unique driver’s choice in its segment.
