Ba­sic camper trail­ers can now be had from just a few thou­sand dol­lars but you get what you pay for. Good qual­ity Aus­tralian made cam­pers start at about $15,000. At the top end, about $50,000 buys a pre­mium off-road model with in­de­pen­dent sus­pen­sion, works burger kitchen and enough wa­ter stor­age and power ca­pac­ity to keep you off the grid for as long as you like.

Hard floor cam­pers, with a flip over lid on the top, are the quick­est and eas­i­est to set up and the floor is off the ground.

Soft floors, with the tent on top, give the most space un­der can­vas, more stor­age and are ideal if you’re camp­ing with kids.

Jayco’s camper trail­ers, with a pop-up roof and slide-out beds, are a bril­liant de­sign and great value for money.
