Bugatti head engineer Willi Netuschil has revealed the new Chiron is capable of breaking the current land speed record for a production car. Netuschil told Autoblog the 1103kW Chiron’s top speed is limited at 420km/h but can be cranked up to 459km/h if the customer requests. Bugatti’s Veyron holds the current record at 431km/h. There are only a few places on earth with a straight long enough to reach that speed and return to rest safely. Bugatti uses owner Volkswagen’s 8.7km-long Ehra Lessien straight for its tests.
