FAST ‘N’ CURIOUS
DETROIT NO SHOWS
A record number of car brands rushed to highlight their advanced technology at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas but there were some significant nonstarters at the first major motor show of the year at Detroit with Jaguar Land Rover, Mini, Mitsubishi, Porsche and Subaru turning down stands.
Australia’s growing appetite for SUVs brought family wagons closer than ever to passenger car numbers, 441,017 to 486,257, in 2016. Small cars were the country’s favourite choice, with 224,450 sales in official VFacts numbers, followed by medium SUVs at 172,194 and 4WD pick-ups at 146,820.
SHIFT THE MUSTANGS
There could be a lot more Ford Mustangs coming to Australia in 2017. If the rumblings in the US are right, extra shifts will be devoted to right-hand drive versions, turning out 12,000 ’Stangs to satisfy demand.
