PAY AS YOU BURN

Speeding motorists in Britain can be fined up to half of their weekly take-home pay for a minor traffic offence, or up to 150 per cent for something more serious. The income-based penalties are capped at $1700 for each offence — or $4250 for motorway indiscretions.

TESLA IN COURT

Tesla is facing a major court battle over allegations that its self-driving Autopilot software fitted to 47,000 cars is “dangerously defective” in operation. Model X and Model S owners have filed a federal court claim in San Jose, California.

TREAD CAREFULLY

About one-third of the cars on Australian roads have illegal tyres — and nearly 90 per cent of owners do not know the legal minimum tread depth. These figures come from Mobile Tyre Shop. It cites a Toyota Corolla with minimum tread, which will take 13.6 metres longer than on new tyres to stop from 80km/h.
