FLY BY

A flying car may light the cauldron at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Toyota reportedly invested almost $500,000 in Cartivator, a small tech company started by former employees. Toyota’s money will go towards building a fullscale prototype of the Skydrive, an F1-style singleseater designed to cruise 10m above traffic at 100km/h.

FLAG CHANGES

Peugeot and Citroen have switched distributors in an attempt to revive flagging sales. Inchcape, distributor of Subaru, will take the reins from Malaysian company Sime Darby Motors next month. Local Peugeot sales were down by more than 20 per cent last year and Citroen sold fewer than 1000 cars.

ELECTRIC SHAVER

The NIO EP9 supercar from NextEV has set a production lap record at Germany’s Nurburgring, clocking 6 minutes 45.9 secs — and shaving six seconds from the Lamborghini Huracan Performante’s previous mark.
