Gov­ern­ment in­cen­tives are not the way to get peo­ple to switch to elec­tric cars, ac­cord­ing to Volk­swa­gen. The e-Golf, a plugin hy­brid, is due next year and the first bat­tery-elec­tric cars will come in 2019. “We’re so close to see­ing EVs eco­nom­i­cally com­pet­i­tive with con­ven­tional cars. Distorting the mar­ket with sub­si­dies is a recipe for boom and crash,” says VW Group Aus­tralia boss Michael Bartsch.
