AUDI Q5 2.0 TDI $70,300-$76,100 DRIVE-AWAY

The Design version of the diesel Q5 matches the BMW for engine outputs, uses less fuel and has similar levels of standard gear. It’s also just as good a drive as its Bavarian rival.

MERCEDES-BENZ GLC 250D $79,500-$82,900 DRIVE-AWAY

The Benz looks the most luxurious from behind the wheel and has the best performance of this group. It’s also appreciably more expensive — you get what you pay for.

LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SPORT $70,300-$73,300

The high-output TD4 HSE isn’t as punchy as its rivals. The Disco Sport handles the roughest roads and is the most capable off the bitumen. Its interior is more understated.
