A piece of history

PRAHRAN’S first female mayor might be moving out of her South Yarra apartment, but there’s no way she’s leaving her stomping ground.

and her husband are vacating their home of 18 years at 4/252 Domain Rd to move a few blocks over to Anderson St.

“I wouldn’t move out of this area,” she told

“I love that you can walk everywhere.”

Ms Duffy, who was mayor of the City of Prahran from 1984 to 1985, said she was reluctant to leave the “stunning home” but had decided to downsize.

The home is part of former historic mansion “Kingsgate”, which was built in 1888 and split into apartments in 1980.

Ms Duffy bought the property in 1998 for $550,000 and has since installed a new kitchen and bathroom.

She’s also made good use of the garage — a “huge portrait” of Ms Duffy from her time as mayor has hung there for years.

Ms Duffy’s old home is being offered for auction on November 28 through Kay & Burton’s Gary Ormrod for $1.8 million-plus.
