Affordable luxury is a hit

AFFORDABLE luxury is the aim of a Hawthorn apartment project that officially hits the market today.

The boutique Hawthorn Bond development will deliver 31 apartments in a mix of one and two-bedroom designs across four levels.

Developer Shine Corp’s aims to bring luxury elements to an apartment setting at an affordable price point.

“We don’t believe that blue chip locations should only be accessible by those who can afford the accompanying price tag and by offering 31 unique floorplans, we’ve tailored the development to have an apartment suitable for everyone,” spokeswoman Helen Lau said.

The building, designed by One Design Office, also intends to pay homage to the area’s history as one of Melbourne’s key brick producers.

One Design Office director Samson Tiew said premium Hawthorn black bricks — a product often associated with luxury Victorian homes — featured in the development.

Mr Tiew said apartment interiors would include Australian hardwood floors, Smeg appliances and natural materials, complemented by a flexible floorplan with a pastel colour palette and brushed chrome fixtures.

Located at 609 Burwood Rd, the development is within walking distance of Auburn village and the bustling Glenferrie Rd precinct. Swinburne University and the Auburn train station are just a few minutes’ walk away, while some of Melbourne’s best schools are found in the area, including Carey Baptist Grammar and MLC.

“It was a conscious decision not to include any communal areas on-site as the surrounding area is equipped with everything you may need, including a gym, pool, restaurants, cafes and even local gardens,” Mr Tiew said.

“By not doubling up on facilities, Hawthorn Bond is able to offer an attractive and accessible price point that appeals to a wider market, including first-home buyers through to downsizers and investors.”

The building will have underground parking.

While the development, due to be finished in June 2017, officially hits the market today, more than 30 per cent of apartments have already been snapped up in pre-launch sales.

Prices range from $425,000 to $532,000 for one-bedroom apartments and $595,000 to $765,000 for two-bedroom designs.
