Big Mal calms down

COLOURFUL former Richmond hardman Mal Brown has sold his Hawthorn East home to make a seachange. RT Edgar director Glen Coutinho handled last month’s $2.6 million private sale of the fourbedroom home at 59 Leura Grove.

Mr Coutinho said Brown and wife Kay had asked for a long settlement period and were planning to move to the coast next year.

Brown, 69, played for the Tigers in 1974 but missed the team’s Grand Final victory after being suspended for throwing the ball at an umpire.

He also played for East Perth, Claremont and South Fremantle in the WANFL before turning his hand to coaching. Brown’s on-field indiscretions earned him regular trips to the tribunal and he has courted controversy off the field too over the years over racial and sexist comments.
