At home with young gun female footballer r Darcy Vescio
SINCE growing up in Markwood, 25km southeast of Wangaratta, Darcy Vescio has made a name for herself as one of the state’s best young female footballers. Named as a marquee player in the inaugural Carlton Football Club women’s AFL football team, Vescio currently represents Darebin Falcons in the Women’s VFL.
Vescio, who is an AFL multicultural ambassador, already works at the Blues as a graphic designer.
She will represent the Western Bulldogs in the AFL Women’s All-Stars exhibition match tonight against Melbourne at Whitten Oval.
The game is set to be broadcast from 7pm on Channel 7, the first time women’s football has ever been broadcast in prime time.
Typical Saturday morning
Saturday is my only free day of the week so I like to sleep in. I like to have a really long sleep in, try not to set an alarm and wake up whenever my body thinks it's the right time. Then I try to go for brunch and hopefully have a few coffees. I try and just relax.
Secret domestic skill
I’m a bit of a cat whisperer. Somehow, I’m at one with the cats. Whenever I see a cat, they come up for a pat. My housemate has a cat and I get along with her really well. I like to think I’m her favourite.
If I’ve got a bit of time in the morning, I like to make baked beans with grilled cheese on toast; that’s probably my best dish.
On my beside table
I’ve got a lamp for night-time reading, I’ve got my headphones on there. I like to listen to music before I go to sleep.
