Nikki van Dijk
THE 22-year-old professional surfer was born and raised on Phillip Island. She started surfing at age four to follow in the footsteps of sister Nina, four years older than her. At the age of eight, she entered her first competition and still remembers her overwhelming urge to win it. “Surfing is such a big part of my life,” she said. “It’s pretty crazy that it’s my job. My sister is now my manager, so we’re always together — you get two for the price of one. My younger brother, Joe (18), is joining us on tour next year, so we can recreate a sense of home away from home.”
Van Dijk divides her time between homes in Victoria and travelling the world for the surfing world championship tour.
