CHARLI Delaney believes people will soon realise that choirs can be cool.

In Battle of the Choirs, 16 choral groups compete for $100,000 by performing songs made famous by such groups as AC/DC, Kylie Minogue and Scissor Sisters.

Delaney joins former Icehouse musician Iva Davies, The Choir of Hard Knocks founder Jonathon Welch and choral music expert George Torbay to judge the performances on the new Channel 7 show.

The former Hi-5 presenter admits choirs have something of an image problem and are traditionally seen as a bit daggy.

‘‘We’ll be giving them cool music to sing. They will really rock out doing stuff like U2,’’ she says.

‘‘Choirs can be cool. Who didn’t love Sister Act?’’ Battle of the Choirs, G Channel 7, 7.30pm, Sunday Singing contest Duration: 1 hour
