Spin-off more than Gossip
IT USUALLY takes years for a series to be considered worthy of a spin-off, but not Gossip Girl. The teen drama is into only its second season and a spin-off is already in development.
America’s CW network looks set to give the project the green light after it was forced to scrap The Graysons, a series about Batman’s sidekick, Robin.
With no other major dramas on the CW development slate, a Gossip Girl spin-off has been fast-tracked.
Gossip Girl, which revolves around privileged New York teens and stars Blake Lively (above), Leighton Meester and Penn Badgley, is averaging 3.5 million viewers this season in the US, up from 2.7 million last year.
The Gossip Girl book series already has its own spin-off, The It Girl, which centres on character Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen). But word is executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will focus on one of the other characters for any new series.
