GARY Sweet (be­low) is one of Rachel Ward’s co-stars in Rain Shadow and he says the ABC drama is shot from a re­al­is­tic per­spec­tive.

‘‘In some ways, it’s a non­ro­man­tic look at a com­mu­nity that’s suf­fer­ing with the drought. There are some re­ally in­ter­est­ing ru­ral char­ac­ters,’’ he says.

Sweet’s char­ac­ter, the mys­te­ri­ous Larry Ri­ley, is one of th­ese in­trigu­ing in­di­vid­u­als and one of the only two non­rural char­ac­ters in the se­ries.

‘‘While he lives in the com­mu­nity, he has a ten­u­ous re­la­tion­ship with it,’’ Sweet says of his char­ac­ter.

‘‘I guess the show is about moral truth so ev­ery­body be­haves ac­cord­ing to their own moral­ity. Let’s just say Larry’s moral­ity may dif­fer at times from the con­ven­tional line.’’
