This team wants two wives

Herald Sun - Switched On - - Out Of The Box - COLIN VICKERY

QUEENSLAND cane farmers Gavin and Steven Pahlke are looking for their soul mates, and what better way to do that than on The Farmer Wants A Wife?

There’s just one catch— they’re father and son.

Gavin, 49, is looking for a lady aged between 36 and 48. Steven, 27, is looking for someone aged between 20 and 30. Gavin wants a life companion; Steven wants to find a wife and start a family.

Call us old-fashioned but wouldn’t it be more than a little weird to be scoping the ladies while your dad is looking on?

‘‘I think it’s cool,’’ Steven says. ‘‘It’s one of the best things Dad’s done in a while.’’

Gavin, explaining why he decided to go on the Channel 9 dating show hosted by Natalie Gruzlewski, says: ‘‘We’ve all watched the program and you see people who meet girls, so I thought ‘what have I got to lose?’

‘‘I was chatting to the producers and mentioned that my son was 27 and single and they said he should come on the show.

‘‘Having my son there was excellent— to share a journey in his life and my life together. I’ve learnt a bit more about my son and he’s learnt a bit more about me.’’

The other five farmers on the series include 27-year-old sheep and cattle farmer Russell, 29-yearold Brad, a New South Wales cattle farmer, 28-year-old sheep farmer Scott, and cattle farmers Nate, 37, and Phil, 42.

The Farmer Wants A Wife has already had its first wedding, a baby is due in August and there have been two engagements, so the chances of Gavin and Steven finding the right ladies are looking quite good.

‘‘I’m just a normal bloke— a normal Aussie fella,’’ Steven says.

‘‘Who doesn’t like a normal Aussie bloke?’’ The Farmer Wants a Wife, PG Channel 9, Monday, 7.30pm Farmers on the make Duration: 1 hour
