Hot romance for Miley Cyrus

Herald Sun - Switched On - - FRONT PAGE -

POP princess Miley Cyrus plays opposite her reallife boyfriend, Aussie Liam Hemsworth, in movie romance The Last Song.

Can you identify with your character’s rebellious nature?

I can be the biggest brat of all history, believe me. When I go home I fight with my parents (dad is musician Billy Ray Cyrus), but overall I would say we are a very close family. My mumand I are closer than any other mother and daughter. It doesn’t mean I don’t drive her crazy. I do identify (with the character Miley plays, Ronnie). This film was important because my mother lost her father at the same age that I am now. Ronnie’s father gets sick and I understand what she goes through.

Did you have a hard time with the emotional scenes?

It was hard. I was upset because I was thinking of how I felt when my best friend passed away, when you can’t breathe and are always feeling sick and you can’t even turn on a TV. You just want everything to go away and you can’t hear music and you can’t do anything and that’s the way Ronnie feels.

How do you think the movie depicts first love?

I think that it’s portrayed a little more idealistically than in real life, because with first love you are probably going to get your heart broken. That’s just the way life works. For me, with every relationship I feel I’ve gained a lot more each time because I feel stronger. And that’s what it’s like with Will (Hemsworth) and Ronnie.

What makes a kissing scene look realistic?

The best thing that I learned on my show was that you become really, really good friends with your lighting guys. You get the moody lighting and it looks great. I really feel the kissing scene is the most beautiful scene.

What kind of guys do you find attractive?

I amvery spontaneous and like to be with someone who enjoys going with the flow.

Can you discuss the new music video When I Look

at You.

It looks at how everything else can be falling apart, but if you have that one person you love, then everything will come together. Wemade the music video very simple. Nothing else except Liam and I.

Werethere any on-set bloopers?

I was wearing a very fancy dress for one scene. Liam told me it was our last day shooting the scene, so I ran into the ocean wearing it. Apparently we still had three more takes to do.

What do you do to relax?

I love being at my house in Nashville, because I’m a little bit of a tomboy and we have dirt bikes and horses.
