SUN SHONE FOR MARG

Herald Sun - Switched On - - Cover Story -

MARG Helgenberger’s career break came when she scored a job as a local news weather girl in her native Nebraska.

But viewers came to know her as Margi McCarty because her news producer felt her name was too long.

She has since built an impressive list of acting credits. She’s worked alongside Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich and Dennis Quaid in Good Company, but it was her role as a prostitute in 1988 war classic China Beach that won her an Emmy Award. It led to a role in ER as George Clooney’s love interest.

She now pinpoints Hollywood hunk Viggo Mortensen as her ultimate on-screen hook up. ‘‘In a perfect world it would be someone like Viggo Mortensen,’’ she says. ‘‘He is a nice guy and he is a really good actor, plus he’s so handsome, sexy and understated.’’
