WHOEVER is responsible for the ABC’s closed captions should be taken off the job. That anyone should think a viewer could take in a slab of dialogue which appeared on screen for one or two frames— a fleeting second— and had completely disappeared while the character speaking the lines was left mouthing the words, is incomprehensible. Yet this has been happening with some of the closed captions on program such as Luther and New Tricks. For the hard of hearing, missing some of the dialogue can ruin the continuity of the plot and destroy the enjoyment of the show.
