★★★ Easily one of the goriest games of the year, Splatterhouse is thankfully more than just a bloody face. The red stuff is built into the gameplay mechanics, with blood used to regain health and also as the currency for learning new moves. Combat pits the player against multiple opponents, with a range of hand-to-hand combos, charge attacks, grabs and weapons to use. Splatterhouse has a darkly enjoyable sense of humour.
