ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE LIVE AT THE CHAPEL

Herald Sun - Switched On - - Weekly Preview -

Channel 7 TW0, 8.10pm

★★★★ The Christmas specials trotted out on the extra free-to-airs can be regarded as ways of using up air-time, or as golden opportunities for us all to visit our glorious, and sometimes not-so-glorious, television pasts. This 1991 Christmas special falls into the former category as we revisit the troubled world of Victor Meldrew, a temperamental old goat with a deliciously black outlook on life.

Channel 9, Midnight

★★★★ After having forced us to suffer through interminable cricket and the unspeakable Warnie dumb-fest, Nine really owes us. Mercifully, they deliver with this absorbing performance by alternative band of the moment, Melbourne’s The Temper Trap, whose soaring guitars and insistent rhythms can help us forget that while our Test team probably still needs Warnie, television does not.
