Amazon, $186 amadle

★★★★ WHAT a difference a year makes. In late 2009 the Amazon Kindle arrived in Australia at a cost of about $280. The new version offers many more features for much less money. For starters, the third Kindle 3G is slimmer, 15 per cent lighter and significantly faster. This speed boost is noticeable when you virtually turn pages on the sixinch E Ink screen. The screen also receives a boost from 16 shades of grey and darker fonts. This Kindle comes with PDF support, a 4GB memory and text-to-speech for some novels. Amazon’s bestselling e-book reader retains its great features, including a 3G internet connection and QWERTY keyboard for book searches.
