FUJITSU LIFEBOOK SH530
Fujitsu, $1399 au.fujitsu.com/pc
★★ The LifeBook is the second biggest machine in our line-up, has the largest processor and the largest price tag. It operates on a Core i5 Intel processor, so it won’t struggle to perform any educational tasks. But out of the box it comes with just 2GB RAM, which suggests Fujitsu jumped to add the latest processor but cut corners on the memory, limiting what otherwise would have been excellent performance. As it comes with 64-bit Windows 7, a 4GB RAM upgrade makes sense. Compared with the smaller units, this 13.3-inch laptop has a decent array of ports, including HDMI and VGA-out connection, which will be handy for media use. Although a solid machine, it’s let down by its odd lack of RAM grunt.
