DS, $69.95

★★★★ In this DS puzzle title, players guide a troupe of wind-up Marios through a variety of scenarios. Once set in motion, the mini Marios will walk ceaselessly forward, so it’s up to the player to draw in platforms and conveyor belts and use springs, pipes and power-ups. It’s charmingly executed, with cute characters and well-designed puzzles. Mini-Land Mayhem even includes a level editor.

PS3/360, $23.95/$20

★★ The first Rearmed game was a polished remake of a long-lost Nintendo classic. Its use of a grappling hook to get around, plus satisfying combat and level design, made it a great game for newcomers and veterans alike. Sadly, the sequel isn’t of the same standard. The introduction of jumping makes gameplay less challenging, while the game design isn’t as memorable. Out now.
