Kogan Technologies, $199, kogan.com.au

★★ THE Kogan GPS is big and loud. Its 6-inch screen is the largest in the group. As soon as the device starts it makes all kinds of jingles and sounds that had me leaping for the volume control. Kogan’s navigator runs on Windows CE, which is a little concerning as support might dry up soon. That said, CE offers much more than just map navigation. The Kogan unit comes with games and other features which might appeal to some but are not critical for drivers. This unit is the worst of the bunch when it comes to glare, again giving another black mark against it for more serious drivers. Where the Kogan does win is in pricing — it’s vastly cheaper than all other GPS units, pushing it into sensible secondary unit territory.
