KILLER FREAKS FROM OUTER SPACE

Wii U Out: 2012 GAMERS who feel the Wii’s catalogue is too focused on casual entertainment would do well to check out Killer Freaks from Outer Space.

This first-person shooter is being developed exclusively for Nintendo’s next system — the Wii U due in 2012 — and looks like good, gory fun.

As one of the last human survivors in the wake of an alien invasion, players will find themselves facing everything from sharp-toothed little critters that attack in swarms to giant robots that stalk across cityscapes.

In addition to traditional weapons, players will be armed with more exotic items such as a saw-blade launcher and a jetpack.

The key element of Killer Freaks From Outer Space, however, is the fact that it’s being designed to make the most of the Wii U’s innovative new controller that has a 6.2-inch touchscreen and motion-sensing technology.

To that end, Killer Freaks eliminates the need for the TV screen entirely.

Players view the action on the Wii U controller’s screen and control their character using the thumbsticks and motion control.

By moving the controller, players can look around them and should have a gratifying level of accuracy aiming.

Killer Freaks will also have a number of multiplayer options, from four-player co-operative play to adversarial multiplayer.

One mode demonstrated has a player defending against waves of enemies sent into battle by another player.

With gory action and a darkly comical edge, Killer Freaks is a game to keep an eye on. Like the Wii U, it will be out some time in 2012.
