Hand-to-hand combat

SONY has a new hand-held gaming device on the way. It’s called Vita, is due later this year and will blow the PSP out of the water. Not only is it more powerful but it has a number of compelling features, such as front and rear touch controls, front and rear cameras, motion sensitivity and, in the top model, 3G connectivity. Here are three games to watch.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss

Nathan Drake’s new hand-held adventure looks strikingly similar to his stellar outings on PS3, complete with lush environments waiting to be explored, solid gunplay, hand-to-hand combat and genre-leading graphics. Vita’s abilities come into play in numerous ways, from tapping the screen to reload to drawing in a path for Drake to follow when climbing a cliff face.

LittleBigPlanet Vita

Vita’s functions are a perfect fit for LittleBigPlanet, allowing players to interact with the world in countless new ways. From tilting the device to move a cable car, to dragging a catapult back to fire Sackboy across a level, it’s already a delight to play and this is just the start. LBP Vita will have its own user-generated content tools too.

WipEout 2048

Set at the birth of anti-gravity racing, this new WipEout game sees players racing through dense, urban environments, as well as high above them. With the option to steer using tilt controls and a full multiplayer suite that will allow cross-platform play between Vita and PS3, there’s a lot to look forward to.
