DIANNE BUTLER OUT OF THE BOX
AMIE has the paintbrush in her hand and seems tense, which she should be: they’re way over budget and it’s only their first room.
Host Scott Cam should be an auctioneer. It’s impressive the way he asks them how much they’ve spent, then pushes the figure up until it’s more than the one they originally said.
So what does Amie’s sister, Katrina, do? Goes and has a manicure.
She needs to get her nails done, she says, because she’s on television and her friends would ‘‘ die’’ if they thought she’d let herself go. It’s not really what I’d call sound logic.
Clearly we couldn’t be more behind these people. Possibly some more than others, but that’s only to be expected.
I’m backing Jenna and Josh. I do have some mild concerns, however, about the pair of $250 cushions they’ve bought for their first room.
Pouring this kind of money into something you can make yourself using an old dress and a metre of velcro with wadding you found on the street is stupidity.
Jenna (in a Mitre 10 hoodie) tries to explain that they’re going to pull the room together, and I’ll be keen to see what level of g-force these soft furnishings exert when the judges arrive.
Cam wants to know about the donnybrook Waz and Polly (controversially wearing clothes they selected themselves) have been having with their builder — before he realises nobody has said donnybrook since 1864 and decides to ask about the ‘‘ bit of a blue’’.
Shelley also gives them some unsolicited advice on what to do with their fireplace, which I think the pair might choose to ignore.
Rod and Tania (Black and Decker T-shirt) have the room the judges will like the best, I predict. Who knew? The Block Channel 9, 7pm
