THE SLAP

Herald Sun - Switched On - - Front Page -

ABC, Thursday, 8.30pm ★★★★★ Based on a viewing of the first two episodes, The Slap has the potential to go down as one of the great Australian drama productions. Based on Christos Tsiolkas’s novel, The Slap focuses on the mayhem that follows a child being slapped by a man (who is not his father) at a backyard barbecue. Melissa George is at the height of her considerable artistic powers in the role of Rosie, the distressed mum of the slapped child. Alex Dimitriades could well be delivering the performance of his career as hot-headed Harry, who seems headed for a day in court as a result of the assault. The big question is how assorted friends and family at the barbecue respond when they are forced to take sides.
