APART from play­ing an ex­pec­tant mum, there aren’t many roles avail­able to a preg­nant ac­tor.

So it was a nerve-rack­ing ex­pe­ri­ence for Mireille Enos — al­ready ‘‘ with child’’ — when she au­di­tioned for the lead role of Seat­tle de­tec­tive Sarah Lin­den in the US re­make of Dan­ish se­ries The Killing.

‘‘ The cast­ing di­rec­tor told ev­ery­one and to their amaz­ing credit they didn’t bat an eye­lid and said, ‘ Well if she’s the right girl then we’ll fig­ure it out’,’’ says Enos, best known in Aus­tralia for play­ing the Mar­quart twins in Big Love.

They ‘‘ fig­ured it out’’ by dis­guis­ing the on-duty de­tec­tive’s baby bump un­der­neath her char­ac­ter’s sig­na­ture large shape­less parkas and Enos shot the two-hour pi­lot episode while five months preg­nant.
