WAKE IN FRIGHT

Herald Sun - Switched On - - On The Couch -

ABC2, Friday, 9.30pm ★★★★ A classic of Australian cinema that premiered at the 1971 Cannes Film Festival. The treasured Chips Rafferty is in his last film role, Jack Thompson is in his first. And they’re working alongside the enigmatic Donald Pleasence and Gary Bond. It’s a gripping story about John Grant (Bond), a teacher in an outback mining town who begins to wonder what he has to live for. Extraordinary to think that it was directed by Ted Kotcheff, who 18 years later gave us comedy classic Weekend at Bernie’s. DD
