Smooth patter, please

Herald Sun - Switched On - - Front Page -

I write to express my disgust at the inability of well-trained, experienced, intelligent public figures to speak properly on TV. It is embarrassing to watch TV presenters, politicians, business leaders, sports stars and entertainment figures who cannot deliver a sentence without an ‘‘ ah’’, ‘‘ um’’ or a ‘‘ you know’’ included. Why can’t these people deliver a smooth sentence (they often have advance notice of what questions will be asked)?
