The Padfone’s 10.1-inch screen does not mir­ror the phone’s screens, so users can dec­o­rate it with dif­fer­ent, tablet-ap­pro­pri­ate wid­gets and apps. Some Padfone apps are de­signed for tablet or phone alone. On the tablet, they can be mag­ni­fied. On the phone, they sim­ply won’t open.

Aside from this con­sid­er­a­tion, the Padfone tablet works as seam­lessly as any other An­droid tablet, from multi-task­ing to big-screen Gmail func­tion­al­ity.

There are down­sides to this Padfone, in­clud­ing a muddy screen and a lack of quad-core power, slow­ing down fea­tures such as its cam­era.

But there are ad­van­tages to com­bin­ing a phone and a tablet, in­clud­ing one price, one in­ter­net plan and more bat­tery life. The tablet’s larger bat­tery can de­liver ex­tra charge to the phone, with a com­bined 64 hours pos­si­ble, ASUS says.
