★★★★ It may or may not be an

‘‘iPad killer’’ but it’s certainly a game-changer. Google’s Nexus 7 tablet, made by ASUS, is much more technology than anyone should expect for $249. The 7-inch tablet is a solid unit with the latest software and hardware clearly optimised for its use, including a quad-core processor. When powered up and filled with Google Play apps, this tablet multitasks effortlessly and rarely pauses. The new Android software, Jelly Bean, should receive part of the credit and also

delivers new and cute animations. Its size (1cm thin) and weight (340g)

make it commuterfriendly and its 7-inch 1280x800 display is easy on the eyes. It’s missing high-end features, but the 8GB or 16GB Nexus 7 is a compelling starter

tablet.
