I have an HP Pavilion DV6-1242TX Entertainment Notebook PC that uses Windows Vista. Last week I bought Microsoft’s Windows 8 upgrade software. I was not aware of screen resolution issues so now I can only really use internet on the laptop. How can I fix this?

You don’t say what screen resolution issues these are, but one of the requirements for a Windows 8 upgrade is that the computer has a Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device installed with a Windows Display Driver Model. If your PC does not have this, it was never ready for the installation. If you still have your Windows Vista discs, you could reinstall that operating system.
