DIANNE BUTLER OUT OF THE BOX
I THINK my copy of this show had words missing from the title and it’s meant to say How Mining Made Australia Lang Hancock’s Personal ATM. According to this, we’re all rich. Obviously it’s relative. Gina Rinehart, for instance, is worth $29 billion. Her money essentially comes from her father flying past iron ore in the Hamersley Range in 1952, deciding it was his and signing a deal with Rio Tinto with no sunset clause. Tonight is mainly a history lesson, in case we don’t know about the gold rush. Nobody uses the terms ‘‘ two speed economy’’ or ‘‘ Banana Republic’’. Not yet anyway.
