I RE­ALISE this is a hard sell, but quite apart from the fright­en­ing beauty of this Ken Burns (left) se­ries, you may find the story of how clear­ing of mil­lions of acres of grass­land, over-farm­ing and shonky real es­tate devel­op­ment helped bring about years of cata- strophic weather still res­onates to­day. This was pol­i­tics and the en­vi­ron­ment clash­ing in the most hor­rific way. Dust storms, a 10-year drought, grasshop­per plagues, the Great De­pres­sion. It seems bi­b­li­cal, says nar­ra­tor Peter Coy­ote. The dust storm footage is star­tling, but the great­est con­tri­bu­tion is from 26 peo­ple who lived through it all.
