HP, $199, due April. hp.com/slate Its first tablet computer release did not go as planned, but HP is taking a different approachwith its second. The HP Slate 7 is designed as an ‘‘affordable’’ tablet, with a starting price of $199. As such, the device does not feature cutting-edge specifications, but enough to keep you entertained. The Google Android tablet uses a 1.6GHz dual-core chip, 1GB RAM and a wi-fi internet connection rather than a 3G one. It has a 16GB capacity for videos, documents and photos, and a 3-megapixel camera on its back. The 7-inch tablet is heavier than some of its larger rivals, at 370g, but its price should leave cash to buy an appropriate travel satchel.
