Channel 7, Tuesday, 9.40pm ★★★★ Parenthood is top-shelf TV, so if you haven’t given it a try, now is the time. It’s a family saga drama that consistently delivers a high standard of writing and performing. A key to its success has been A-grade actor Monica Potter, who is perfectly cast in her role. It was Potter who suggested to the show’s writers that her character Kristina Braverman battle breast cancer this season. The request came after the actor had a mammogram scare in real life. From that dark cloud, Potter has turned out some of the most brilliant performances of her career and this doubleepisode is exemplary. Autistic son Max (played by Max Burkholder) is baulking about going to a school dance, but is pushed into it by Kristina, desperate to witness this happy milestone. After husband Adam coaxes Max into it for the sake of his sick mum, Kristina gets him prepared with a mother-son dance lesson. It is a heart-breakingly beautiful moment and not to be missed. You’ll need to have your tissues at the ready for this one because it’s a real blub-athon. HB
