Sony, $749 ★★★★ The Xperia Z is Sony’s sexiest smartphone — by far. Shaped like a minimalist slice of glass and plastic, the 4G Z is a severe-looking device that appears to have no external openings or navigation buttons, except for a pronounced power key and a volume rocker on its side. Everything else is hidden to keep this phone dust and water-resistant. It’s not all good looks, either. Sony’s flagship phone uses a 1.5GHz quadcore processor and 2GB RAM to power Android Jelly Bean software (4.1) and light up a 5-inch full highdefinition screen with a sharp 441 pixels-per-inch resolution. The screen, best viewed from straight on as colours wash out at an angle, helps highlight sharp results from its 13-megapixel camera.
