DOWNTON fa­nat­ics can rest as­sured the show will re­turn for a fourth sea­son.

The se­ries is back in pro­duc­tion at the renowned High­clere Cas­tle, but if you ven­tured on to the set of the hit pe­riod drama you’d no­tice a key cast mem­ber or two has gone miss­ing.

Sun­day’s sea­son three fi­nale of Downton is its Christ­mas episode, which, in true Bri­tish tele­vi­sion tra­di­tion, means one thing — car­nage.

‘‘ All of life’s ex­pe­ri­ences will fea­ture in this episode,’’ ex­ec­u­tive pro­ducer Gareth Neame says. ‘‘ This is one episode you will want to see. Best have the tis­sues ready.’’
