2 PENTAX MX-1
Pentax, $499, pentax.com.au ★★★★ This Pentax camera is filled with cutting-edge, modern features, but you might not guess that from its exterior. The MX-1 looks like a camera from the 1970s but start it up and its modernity becomes apparent. This camera uses a 12-megapixel backlit sensor, offers a sharp, three-inch, tilting LCD screen to show off its results, and has at least two more dials than you’d expect of a $499 camera — one for exposure and the other selections. Its lens offers an aperture as large as f1.8 for portraits with depth, and a 4x optical zoom equivalent to 28-114mm. Enthusiasts should appreciate its 1cm Macro mode that delivers exceedingly detailed close-ups, its 12,800 ISO, and its customisable High Dynamic Range mode.
