Channel 7, Thursday 8.30pm ★★★★ This would have to be the best new comedy series of, I don’t know, 1975? There aren’t too many jokes you haven’t heard once or twice, but the fact Mrs Brown’s Boys is reminiscent of British classics such as On the Buses and Are You Being Served? is no doubt one of the reasons so many viewers like it. This is not to say it can’t be clever. If you’ve not seen this BAFTAwinning sitcom, it stars Irish comic Brendan O’Carroll as Mrs Agnes Brown, a foul-mouthedmumwho makes life hell for her six hen-pecked children. Tonight is about as saucy as you’ll get, with daughter Cathy revealing to hermum(O’Carroll) that she needs to shore up her relationship with Professor Clowne by going out and getting a boob job. Mummy is supportive, suggesting Cathy should do whatever makes her happy. Believe it or not, Mummy reckons she was a bit of all right in her day and tells Cathy she was so proud of her body that she used to strip suggestively in front of the mirror and wiggle her knockers at it. And the punchline: ‘‘Everyone else in the butcher’s would just stare at me,’’ Mummy adds. Boom tish.
